HB Quimper Set of Quimper Cotriade Bowls - circa 1960 - (J) - SOLD

Set of Quimper Cotriade Bowls for the Breton fish stew - essentially chunks of fish and potatoes in a light broth - hence this shallow shape is ideal. They are 8-1/2" diameter, 1-1/2" deep. Three of them are signed HB Quimper SOCOTREVI-CONCARNEAU, one simply HB Quimper (these all have artist's initials and F. and D. numeration), and two have no signatures at all. SOCOTREVI was a cannery (sardines, mackerel, tuna) on the edge of Concarneau that closed in 1968. The plates were part of what was almost certainly a special order for the cannery, most likely in the 1960s. They are in excellent condition and may be used with care (we always suggest handwashing.)
