HB Quimper Covered Bucket Old Yellow (J) - SOLD

#101-0587, 0588: Covered Bucket, 4 ½” high, 5” diameter across lid. Still with its original wicker handle, a tidy little server for ice cubes, or nuts, or….whatevers. This is an excellent example of the way the very traditional décor was modernized for this period in these colors. S: HB Quimper France N.S.& S…. The initials, no doubt, the American store where this was to be sold. In perfect condition. It must be noted that the camera did not take kindly to the yellow backgrounds, making some look much paler than they really are… think “Butter” and “Sunshine”! $135, Shipping: $30 To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com The yellow glazes were first used after the end of World War I, a time of great artistic experimentation at the Quimper faienceries. As the American market developed and fell in love with these colors, so did the variety of designs chosen …many of them trials, with a very brief run, some highly successful...

Tabatière de table Snuff Circa 1880 (J)- SOLD

Tabatière de table 3-1/2” x 2-1/2” x 1-7/8”. Pass the snuff around the table, in this cunningly-designed book box! The little slide closes nicely (the underside of it needed a very minor restoration, which has been done), the décor front and back is almost enamelled, so well has it been painted, and the date, 1766, is more than 100 years earlier than when this piece was created. Attributed to the de la Hubaudière factory, ca. 1880, it is another marvel of clever design, handsomely rendered. Price $500 plus postage $25. Becassine HB Quimper France Circa 1920 (J) - SOLD

#101-0582, 0583: "Becassine", 9" high, 3 1/2" square base. A superstar for several reasons: First, she is the most famous piece from the polka dot series of the 1920's. Second, because she is "Becassine", a folk art figure of storybook fame from the 1920's well into the 1950's. All the stories feature her, a little Bretonne country girl, who gets into endless scrapes and mishaps, always ending up the heroine at the end of each adventure. She is an icon done on paper, in dolls, and in pottery. Here she is carrying two baskets that serve as candleholders. S: HB Quimper France. She is missing a bit of glaze from her nose, but it does not detract from her overall excellent appearance,so we chose to leave it alone. $350, plus Shipping: $35.  The yellow glazes were first used after the end of World War I, a time of great artistic experimentation at the Quimper faienceries. As the American market developed and fell in love with these colors,...

1st Period Porquier Horseshoe Vase, circa 1880- SOLD

1st period Porquier horseshoe vase, circa 1880, mint, great color and detail, nice scene, 5.5 tall x 5" wide, first one I have seen with the early Porquier Beau mark. Most are Henriot marks, so I consider this rare. Price is $560 + $38 for postage. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com

Dolphin Vase HenRiot Quimper France 155, ca. 1925 (J) - SOLD

Dolphin vase, 9-7/8” high, 7” across dolphin tails, 5-1/4” across base. Highly decorative alone, each of its three sides completely different: choose from the coat of arms of Brittany, a delicious spray of flowers, or the traditional young courting couple to face forward…then swivel the vase to change your mood. The dolphins are handsomely detailed and very well-balanced. In perfect condition. S: HenRiot Quimper France 155, ca. 1925. Price $295 plus $18 for postage. HB Pair of Plates "Ribbon Border" Circa 1880 (J) - SOLD

Pair of plates, 9-3/4” diameter. Lightly scalloped, with a ribbon-y border interspersed with ermine tails. This was a rare series created by the de la Hubaudière factory in the late 19th century and these are a particularly fine pair. The costumes and faces are delicately detailed, the borders nicely differentiated. She has a pinpoint of glaze missing at the outer edge at about 4 o’clock (looks like a glaze skip that grew a smidge); otherwise, they are impeccable.  Rather good for ca. 1880, we think! Price $575 plus $28 postage. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com

Porquier Beau Little Basket Circa 1880 (J)- SOLD

Little basket, 5-1/4” long, 1-3/4” high, 2-3/4” across. This just begs to be picked up, turned over, and examined closely, as the little flowers and leafy sprays are just as charming on the underside, which is also fluted into the base. No surprise this bears the Porquier Beau mark, ca. 1880; it has all the qualities of their finest botanical pieces. It is in perfect, original condition: the little speck of white on the blue curled rim is simply a tiny glaze blob and original to the piece. Price $175 plus $25 postage. HB Candlesticks Circa 1890 (J)- SOLD

Traditional pair,  8” high, 4” base diameter. A shape that has been created in many materials (think: silver, brass, wood!) in many countries, over many centuries. These are charmingly simple, the colors soft. Obviously used (we left the wax traces inside the cups, deliberately), they are in fine condition. S: HB, ca. 1890. Pair is $165 plus $38 postage.
