Cloverleaf Portrait Plates These handsome portraits are derived from the Fouillen designs of that period...the 1920's. 9 5/8" diameter, they are in perfect condition and would  make a handsome table setting, or a great wall display, mixed with other, more contemporary decors. All are S: HB Quimper, and the distinctive painter's marks of that time. $295 the set, plus $40 shipping.

Malicorne Gourde - Late 19th Century (J)

Gourde 5-1/2” long, 4-1/2” across, 1-3/4” thick. A rare find in every way: these flasks were used for water or wine and were often given to a young man on his birthday, when he was about to go off to do his military service (so the motifs were generally less feminine than this portrait of a lady spinner). No specific factory attribution was given by the auction expert, but we had it inspected by another who felt it was probably old Malicorne. Therefore, we feel safe in saying late 19th century Malicorne. There was a small break in one of the yellow loops, which we had repaired…for the rest: in excellent condition. You may thread your cord or ribbon or leather sash through the loops, fill it, cork it, sling it across your shoulder, and go off for a day’s hike or ride! Or just hang it on your wall as an interesting addition to a grouping of faïence.

Price $145 plus $28 shipping.

George Brisson Pitcher ca. 1920's (J)

Large Brisson pitcher, 7-3/8" high, 6" across to handle, 3-1/4" base diameter. Georges Brisson created this theme in the 1920s for the de la Hubaudière factory. The figures are highly stylized, as are the Breton motifs that outline the scenes. This fresh approach to traditional ideas was typical of the Art Deco period and was widely welcomed in the post-war period of the 1920s. On the top of the handle, there is a very small area that looks like a reglaze, but there is no evidence of a break or repair, so we would say," In excellent condition".

$350, plus $35 shipping.

Malicorne Oval Trays ca. 1900 (J)

Two oval trays, Malicorne.

Left: 9-1/2” x 6-3/4”. Typically naïve rendition of the Quimper ideas, she has had a modest professional repair, may be used with care. No mark, late 19th century.
Price: $75 plus $25 postage. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com.

Right: 9-1/2” x 6-1/4”. The same dimensions, but a completely different effect: this stands on a 1/4” footed base and is reticulated (never an easy task in the firing) for a lacy, basket-like effect. Has had modest professional repair, may be used with care. No mark, ca.1900. Price: $150 plus $25 postage. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com.

Picture Frame - S: HenRiot Quimper France, ca. 1935.

Picture frame, 9-1/2” high, 7” across, 4” depth. A handsome easel, with a 2-1/2”x 3-1/2” opening for a special picture or memento to set within the frame. We love the paint daubs and the brush colors, reminding us that this, too, was painted by an artist! It is a strong, well-balanced piece in over-all excellent condition: the inside of one of the rear struts has two small chunks missing; this in no way affects the appearance or strength of this piece. S: HenRiot Quimper France, ca. 1935.
