Book Bank Circa 1870 (J) - SOLD

Book bank, 6” long, 3-3/4” wide, 1-1/2” thick. Its purpose is self-evident with the title, "Economie",  printed on the spine. It was clearly well-used, as evidenced by the minor chipping around the coin slot (which we chose to leave as is). However, we did have our restorer put the little buckled band back to its original state, hence, the three red dots on the bottom. No factory mark, too early, but clearly AP, ca. 1870. It deserves a special place on shelf or table where we have no doubt it will be much admired. Price $425 plus shipping $28. Polka Dot Series Trio with Yellow Glaze - HB Quimper - Circa 1925 (J)- SOLD

#101-0580: A Trio from the Polka Dot Series. Since this series came into fashion just as smoking was also "a la mode", it is not surprising that the savvy artists and designers of the HB faiencerie used this trend to create a charming  series of accouterments: cigarette holders and ashtrays. Fortunately, they used adorable animal motifs, so nowadays we can enjoy these pieces for their inherent whimsy and ignore the smoking aspects entirely. These are all HB Quimper, ca. 1925., and in perfect condition.   It must be noted that the camera did not take kindly to the yellow backgrounds, making some look much paler than they really are… think “Butter” and “Sunshine”! Frog, 4" x 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" high. $195       Bunny, 4" x 4" x 2 1/2" high. $175. Fish, 4 1/2" x 2 1/4" x 3 5/9" high.$250         $550 for the three pieces. Shipping: $28 any one, $50 the three.
