Malicorne Gourde - Late 19th Century (J) - SOLD

Gourde 5-1/2” long, 4-1/2” across, 1-3/4” thick. A rare find in every way: these flasks were used for water or wine and were often given to a young man on his birthday, when he was about to go off to do his military service (so the motifs were generally less feminine than this portrait of a lady spinner). No specific factory attribution was given by the auction expert, but we had it inspected by another who felt it was probably old Malicorne. Therefore, we feel safe in saying late 19th century Malicorne. There was a small break in one of the yellow loops, which we had repaired…for the rest: in excellent condition. You may thread your cord or ribbon or leather sash through the loops, fill it, cork it, sling it across your shoulder, and go off for a day’s hike or ride! Or just hang it on your wall as an interesting addition to a grouping of faïence.

Price $145 plus $28 shipping.
