HR Quimper Traditional Cider Cup Ca. 1905

Traditional Cider Cup 3-3/4" diameter, 1-3/8" high, 4-1/2" across handle. Ca. 1905, with early signature under the handle, and in excellent condition. There is a thin blob of old glaze that runs down the front from the handle, left, in a triangle shape into the innermost circle: this is original to the piece and in no way affects its appearance or utility. Cider? Perhaps! But perfect for a small nut or candy dish. $65 plus $10 shipping. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com

HB Bac à Lavement Ca. 1880

Bac à Lavement 8-5/8" high, 10" across handles, 5-1/2" total depth, including lion's spout. A vessel for washing, so discreetly described by the French term, a useful sanitary piece made in the 19th century. A great rarity, we show one in our book, Collecting Quimper, on p. 73. The one we are offering here is from the same factory, HB, same period, ca. 1880, and is totally original, including the spout, so often missing. $1200, shipping $40. Saumur Wine Jug

Saumur Wine Jug 5-3/4" high, 4-3/4" long, 4" across to tip of spout. From Saumur, the famous wine-growing center of the Loire valley, comes this little charmer. Possibly commissioned by a wine merchant (white or red!) as a petit cadeau for favored clients, we think it was probably intended to be decorative rather than for serious use (though it fills and pours nicely). Barrel-shaped pieces are always highly desirable...this is France, after all...and this one has great presence. Modest conservation measures, indicated by the three red dots, and good age, though we cannot give a specific factory attribution. $125, shipping $20. HB Quimper Crêpes Serving Dish ca, 1905

Crêpes Serving Dish 8-1/2" long, 5-1/2" across, 3-1/8" high at tops of ruffled edges. Imagine this piece flattened out: it is exactly the shape a crêpe would be! So roll them up, pile them in, and serve in this delectable dish. Just a bit of glaze wear along the tops of the blue ruffles, consistent with its age, ca. 1905, and general usefulness. This is a very rare form and would be a treasure in anyone's kitchen. $165, shipping $25. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com

HB Quimper Scalloped Plate Circa 1925 - SOLD

HB Quimper Deep Dish Plate - SOLD

HR Quimper Pair Scalloped Plates ca. 1905 (J) - SOLD

Pair of scalloped plates, 10" diameter. A vibrant orange red is the keynote of this pair, used in the chain border, floral sprays, and costume details. The colors, over-all, have been so richly applied, they have a rare enameled effect. So while they are in perfect, original condition, we would recommend them for display, rather than use, as one would not wish to mar the surface in any way. S: HR Quimper on the front, ca. 1905. $325, plus $35 shipping. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com

Calotte, ca. 1860 - SOLD

Calotte, ca. 1860. An exuberant burst of field flowers and petals. 8-3/4" diameter, an unusually deep 2". This was well-used in its day, hence the glaze is full of gentle crazing. Our restorer's three red dots indicate we also had a mild conservation measure taken: a hairline has been cured. Considering its age, we think this is best kept for display only: it would be equally handsome on shelf or table. $250, shipping $25. Pair of Plates, ca. 1870 - SOLD

Pair of Plates, ca. 1870 Luscious soft tones, these came from a Brittany farmhouse where they must have had pride of place in the vaisselier because they are in pristine condition, despite their many years. Left: Plate, 9" diameter. Varied striping makes a simple frame for this exuberant basket of flowers. $165, plus $20 shipping. Right: Calotte, 8-5/8" diameter. So interesting to see how the artist took the same elements yet created an entirely different effect. $195, plus $20 shipping. They are in such perfect harmony, we are offering them together: $335, plus $30 shipping. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com

French Faience Bookends Little Red Riding Hood & The Big Bad Wolf Circa 1930-50. (J) - SOLD

Book ends, together they are 11” long, 4” wide, 7-3/4” high (to the top of “Grandmother’s” ears). These are the most delightful bookends to cross our path in many a long day! Little Red Riding Hood knocks on one bookend door, and the Wolf, rigged out as Grandmother, peers out over the other. From her costume, we deduce these were done in the 1930-50s. There are no identifying marks, so we will not even hazard a guess as to where in France they were made, just that they are in excellent condition, and all ready to grace a shelf of children’s books, or cookbooks, or reference books about French faience. Price: $475 shipping $55. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com

HB Plate ca. 1880 - Quimper, France - SOLD

HB Tripod Vase - Quimper - SOLD

TRIPOD VASE 12" high, base 8-1/2" across any side. A triple dolphin standard supports the beautifully-painted teardrop flower holder, making it a dramatic stand-alone piece. Flowers simply arrange themselves with no effort, due to the slight incurving at the top of the vase. There are three small pierced holes inside the dolphin necks; these are original to the piece, leading one to speculate this was, or was intended to be, part of an extremely large centerpiece. It is in perfect condition, the HB signature tucked inside the body of the vase. Truly outstanding, a rare size! $1200, shipping $65. Vase from de la Hubaudière factory Quimper, ca. 1935 - SOLD

Vase 19-1/4" high, 12" diameter at the full-bodied center, 7" diameter at the very solid base. A remarkable large form - the artist who painted this piece treated it like a fine canvas with all the detail beautifully executed. From the de la Hubaudière factory, ca. 1935, and signed both on the front and the bottom. It had excellent restoration by our fine artisan in Quimper and now exhibits beautifully. We would not recommend using it for fresh flowers, but dried arrangements would be spectacular! To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com

Fan Vase, HenRiot Quimper, ca. 1925 - SOLD

Fan Vase, HenRiot, ca. 1925. Traditional motifs anchored by a large shell motif tucked between the dolphin standards. 10-1/2" across widest point, 7-3/4" high, top opening flared to 2" at center. A colorful composition of many of their most famous patterns: striping, croisillé, floral sprays, and, front and center, a well-detailed Breton couple. In perfect original condition, and signed inside one of the dolphins: HenRiot Quimper (not so easy to accomplish!). $295 plus $45 shipping To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com

HB Mug Circa 1890 Quimper, France - SOLD

Early Small Mug 3-3/8" high, 2-3/4" diameter. A sweet little piece, with traditional decoration. A bit of roughness around the base scarcely shows (looks like glaze didn't go quite far enough, mostly). Our restorer's three red dots indicate modest conservation; save this to use as a vase for little spring flowers. S: HB, ca. 1890. $65, plus $10 shipping.
