SWAN & LITTLE SWANS A full-bodied creature, handsomely detailed from the tip of his beak, 15-3/8" long to the end of his lightly striped tail. Glaze skips there at the tip (they are an early firing flaw and original to the piece), for the rest, in perfect condition! As are all the little swans: each 3-1/2" long, 1-5/8" across, 2-1/2" high. All the pieces are signed, either HR or HR Quimper, but the whole set clearly was created together, ca. 1915. So many uses possible for this ensemble: eggs, hard-boiled and served in the little swans, and devilled eggs presented on the big swan! And of course, just sitting demurely as a wonderful centerpiece. $685, plus $40 shipping. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 240.215.4467 info@merchantofprato.com
TUREEN ON PLATTER Platter is 8-1/2" x 11-3/8", other pieces sized to match; the total ensemble is 6-1/2" high. Only superlatives for this wonderful three-piece ensemble: all the motifs, taken from the best of old Rouen decor, are finely detailed and richly painted. The chain border, on the platter, footed base of the tureen, and its lid, takes a steady hand to execute successfully. Not surprisingly, a piece of this great age had signs of wear; our restorer has put everything in fine show-off condition, but we recommend this be saved for decorative purposes only! From the de la Hubaudière production, late 19th century. $595, plus $50 shipping. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 240.215.4467 info@merchantofprato.com
MALICORNE BASKET 12-1/4" long, 5" wide, 7-1/2" to top of handle. Patterns of flowers and croisillé, topped by a spill of berries on each side of the handle. The deep basket invites summer's bounty of flowers or fruit to fill it. A strikingly original piece from the Malicorne faïenceries, ca. 1900. It has had modest conservation measures done by our restorer: it now shows beautifully and may be used gently. $150, plus $25 shipping. ST. MALO ROUND BLAZON 5-3/4" diameter, signed HB on the back, ca. 1880. Here, the ermine of Brittany runs friskily along a fence top, the traditional motif of the blazon of St. Malo. It makes for an interesting composition to mix the rounds and the ovals, as one collects the various blazons. They are part of the rich heritage of the region. It is in perfect condition. $225, plus $20 shipping. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 240.215.4467 info@merchantofprato.com
PAIR OF OVAL BLAZONS Richly detailed pair, from the AP production, ca. 1870. Each measures 5-1/2" x 4-1/8". The ermine tails of Brittany, the curled-horn ram of Quimper: both instantly recognizable  as the finishing motifs of many plates and platters of all periods. Pierced at the top for easy hanging, they lend themselves handsomely to all sorts of wall compositions. $695 the pair, plus $25 shipping. COVERED BOX, FOUILLEN Body diameter: 5". Lid diameter, a close-fitting 4-1/2". Base diameter: a solid 3-5/8". Design by Paul Fouillen, a vignette from his plate series, so beloved by collectors everywhere! A great rarity, just acquired from a private collection in Quimper. HB Quimper, ca. 1925, it is in fine, useful condition. The several glaze skips at the bottom of the lid and at the base are from the original firing and should not be touched...just hand wash gently! $165, plus $25 shipping. GEOMETRIC PLATE 7-1/4" diameter. Ca. 1925, from the de la Hubaudière factory, signed HB Quimper France, thus indicating it was export-ready. Bold patterns, called "à la touche", because they were created with one stroke of the paint brush, are derived from much older decors, here reassembled for a very modern effect. A rare small size, which enhances the importance of the design. In perfect condition, small but striking. $95, plus $20 shipping. Saumur Wine Jug - SOLD

Saumur Wine Jug 5-3/4" high, 4-3/4" long, 4" across to tip of spout. From Saumur, the famous wine-growing center of the Loire valley, comes this little charmer. Possibly commissioned by a wine merchant (white or red!) as a petit cadeau for favored clients, we think it was probably intended to be decorative rather than for serious use (though it fills and pours nicely). Barrel-shaped pieces are always highly desirable...this is France, after all...and this one has great presence. Modest conservation measures, indicated by the three red dots, and good age, though we cannot give a specific factory attribution. $125, shipping $20. HB Quimper Crêpes Serving Dish ca, 1905 - SOLD

Crêpes Serving Dish 8-1/2" long, 5-1/2" across, 3-1/8" high at tops of ruffled edges. Imagine this piece flattened out: it is exactly the shape a crêpe would be! So roll them up, pile them in, and serve in this delectable dish. Just a bit of glaze wear along the tops of the blue ruffles, consistent with its age, ca. 1905, and general usefulness. This is a very rare form and would be a treasure in anyone's kitchen. $165, shipping $25. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com

HR Quimper Pair Scalloped Plates ca. 1905 (J) - SOLD

Pair of scalloped plates, 10" diameter. A vibrant orange red is the keynote of this pair, used in the chain border, floral sprays, and costume details. The colors, over-all, have been so richly applied, they have a rare enameled effect. So while they are in perfect, original condition, we would recommend them for display, rather than use, as one would not wish to mar the surface in any way. S: HR Quimper on the front, ca. 1905. $325, plus $35 shipping. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com

Calotte, ca. 1860 - SOLD

Calotte, ca. 1860. An exuberant burst of field flowers and petals. 8-3/4" diameter, an unusually deep 2". This was well-used in its day, hence the glaze is full of gentle crazing. Our restorer's three red dots indicate we also had a mild conservation measure taken: a hairline has been cured. Considering its age, we think this is best kept for display only: it would be equally handsome on shelf or table. $250, shipping $25. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com

Pair of Plates, ca. 1870 - SOLD

Pair of Plates, ca. 1870 Luscious soft tones, these came from a Brittany farmhouse where they must have had pride of place in the vaisselier because they are in pristine condition, despite their many years. Left: Plate, 9" diameter. Varied striping makes a simple frame for this exuberant basket of flowers. $165, plus $20 shipping. Right: Calotte, 8-5/8" diameter. So interesting to see how the artist took the same elements yet created an entirely different effect. $195, plus $20 shipping. They are in such perfect harmony, we are offering them together: $335, plus $30 shipping. To purchase contact Merchant of Prato 866.813.1879 info@merchantofprato.com

HB Tripod Vase - Quimper - SOLD

TRIPOD VASE 12" high, base 8-1/2" across any side. A triple dolphin standard supports the beautifully-painted teardrop flower holder, making it a dramatic stand-alone piece. Flowers simply arrange themselves with no effort, due to the slight incurving at the top of the vase. There are three small pierced holes inside the dolphin necks; these are original to the piece, leading one to speculate this was, or was intended to be, part of an extremely large centerpiece. It is in perfect condition, the HB signature tucked inside the body of the vase. Truly outstanding, a rare size! $1200, shipping $65.
