Pig Pitcher, 7" high, 5" from snout to handle. A delightful piece from Desvres, ca. 1920. The signature "Rouen" on the bottom makes this a textbook example of the way many Desvres pieces were marketed and sold, both originally and now, when new collectors think they have come upon a piece of old Rouen. No, no, no...the Rouen factories disappeared in the early 19th century, and the local merchants then turned to other factories in other towns to go on making designs they could sell to the tourists. This piece is the Desvres production at its best: well-modeled and painted, and in excellent condition. Price $300, shipping $25.
